How to get involved:

Background

North Sydney Council recognises that social inclusion is essential to the well-being of our community. We want all members of the community to access the support they need to connect and engage with the North Sydney community.

Key themes

To help guide the conversation, we have identified the following themes in the Social Inclusion Discussion Paper:

  1. How we maintain connection with each other
While young people are more connected than ever online, at the same time loneliness and isolation has increased. Many North Sydney residents rent or are new to the community. We want to find ways to improve our social connections, both in the spaces we use and the supports we give.
  2. How we nurture belonging in our community
Belonging is about feeling welcome and is tied to our shared beliefs, values or ideas, and an acceptance of our differences. We want to know what 'belonging' means to you, and how we can make North Sydney a more welcoming and accepting community.
  3. How we encourage and value our community's contribution
Participation on the decision-making of Council is essential so we can understand how to best serve our community. We want to know what barriers exist for community members to engage with us and how we can ensure better access to information on volunteering and other ways to be involved in North Sydney.
  4. How we continue investing to build social inclusion
Council is well placed to understand social issues within our community, however, with increasing expectations on local government and limited resources, we need to understand where the greatest needs are and consider how we can maximise our impact through collaborations and partnerships.

About this consultation

Council is seeking feedback on five Discussion Papers (Culture and Creativity, Economic Development, Integrated Transport, Open Space and Recreation, and Social Inclusion) via online surveys (open 12 May – 23 June) and dedicated community forums.

The information we collect will help to identify the needs and aspirations of the North Sydney community and will be used to develop a series of strategies that will in turn inform our new 2025-2035 Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Programs and Operational Plans. They will determine our priorities and ensure that Council’s resources are focused on delivering outcomes needed and wanted by our community.

$100 prize draw

Everyone who provides feedback via our online surveys has the option to go into a prize draw to win a weekly $100 gift voucher. There are 4 x $100 gift vouchers available in total. The winners will be drawn at random each week from Tuesday 4 June – Tuesday 25 June inclusive and announced the same day. It is strictly one entry per person per focus area survey.
