Background
Our community has said North Sydney is congested, but road widening won’t solve this problem and will have serious consequences like tree loss and impacts on public space. North Sydney Council would like to encourage healthy, safe, and active transport options for a resilient system that serves all in the community.
Key themes
To help guide the conversation, we have identified the following themes in the Integrated Transport Discussion Paper:
- Healthy and balanced
The North Sydney community sees the benefits of sustainable travel, through increasing use of public transport, walking and cycling. We want to know how we can encourage members young and older in the community to walk and cycle more, to improve health and well-being, and meet other people in the community. We want to hear your ideas about this. - Reliable and strategic
North Sydney attracts over 80,000 workers to its central business district as well as many students commuting from other areas. Heavy traffic congestion and parking is an issue across parts of the North Sydney area. We would like your ideas on how we can improve parking and traffic management, with the limited space we have available. - Safe and inclusive
There are around 1,700 people living in the North Sydney LGA who need assistance due to disability, health conditions or old age. We want to understand how we can improve safety and accessibility on our roads and around public transport. - Perceptions and behaviour
Beliefs and attitudes can change our transport choices and Council would like to encourage more people to choose active and sustainable transport options. We would like to understand how people can be encouraged to use active transport options and how we can advocate for investment to serve our future needs.
About this consultation
Council is seeking feedback on five Discussion Papers (Culture and Creativity, Economic Development, Integrated Transport, Open Space and Recreation, and Social Inclusion) via online surveys (open 12 May – 23 June) and dedicated community forums.
The information we collect will help to identify the needs and aspirations of the North Sydney community and will be used to develop a series of strategies that will in turn inform our new 2025-2035 Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Programs and Operational Plans. They will determine our priorities and ensure that Council’s resources are focused on delivering outcomes needed and wanted by our community.
$100 prize draw
Everyone who provides feedback via our online surveys has the option to go into a prize draw to win a weekly $100 gift voucher. There are 4 x $100 gift vouchers available in total. The winners will be drawn at random each week from Tuesday 4 June – Tuesday 25 June inclusive and announced the same day. It is strictly one entry per person per focus area survey.

It highlights some of strengths, challenges, and strategic opportunities within the North Sydney Local Government Area and encourages you to think about where we are now, where we want to be and how we will get there.
