Consultation has concluded

North Sydney Council resolved at its meeting held 29 October 2018 to place the draft Urban Forest Strategy on public exhibition for at least 28 days from November to 7 December 2018.

Council is committed to maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment and has long recognised the importance of trees and vegetation in the urban setting. Council developed and implemented its first Urban Forest Strategy in 2011 and has now undertaken a comprehensive review to produce a revised Urban Forest Strategy (2018).

Urban greenspace is more than just the pretty bits and pieces that fill the spaces between buildings and roads; it is an integral component of a healthy urban environment providing immense services and benefits to the community. Without this urban greenery our city would be much hotter, our energy consumption much higher, our stormwater levels much greater, and our lives much more stressed.

The Urban Forest Strategy (2018) is the culmination of many years of research and mapping of the North Sydney Urban Forest; it provides an in-depth look at how our ‘green infrastructure’ is performing now and considers how we can maximise its performance into the future.
