Yeo Street, Cremorne - Notification of tree removal and proposed upgrade to raised pedestrian crossing

Feedback closes 20 December 2024.

The existing tree in the roadway on the northern side of Yeo Street is required to be removed due to poor form and visibility concerns. Given this, Council is considering a proposal to upgrade the existing pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Yeo Street and Rangers Road, Cremorne. The upgrade will include redesigning the crossing to align with current Technical Directions and to provide adequate visibility. As such, two motorcycle spaces and one car parking space would be converted to “No Stopping”. Additionally, a new tree would be planted nearby to replace the one being removed as part of the crossing upgrade.

To facilitate the proposed upgrade of the raised pedestrian crossing, the existing pedestrian refuge and crossing would be removed. Zig zag line-marking is proposed on Yeo Street on approach to the pedestrian crossing to alert drivers to the upcoming crossing so drivers can be prepared to stop for pedestrians. The kerb extension on the southern side of Yeo Street would be extended to align with the length of the existing “No Stopping” restriction, approximately 24 metres from Rangers Road.

The proposal aims to improve safety for pedestrians crossing the street, reduce vehicle speeds, and provide visibility between approaching drivers and crossing pedestrians.

The proposed works would result in a net loss of two on-street motorcycle spaces and one car parking space on the western side of Yeo Street.

Converting a section of on-street motorcycle and car parking to “No Stopping” would prohibit vehicles from stopping at any point on the road or kerb in the direction of the arrow within the designated “No Stopping” area.
