Street Play Pilot Program

Nominations for pilot program closed 2 October 2020.

Feedback on proposed street play locations is open.

In Spring 2020, Council will launch a popup ‘Street Play’ pilot program, where streets are transformed into public open spaces for kids to play and the community to enjoy.

Streets participating in the program will be temporarily closed to through traffic or have additional parking restrictions so that road space can be ‘opened for people’ (access to properties will be maintained at all times through formal traffic control).

Council has received a large number of requests to participate in the program and has preliminarily identified streets for the first 5 street play days in areas where there was high levels of interest. However, there are potentially additional opportunities to have a ‘play day’ in November or December 2020 or in autumn 2021, so we encourage you to get in contact with us (details below) to discuss your idea with Council.

Laycock Street - Sunday 8 November 2020 from 1pm - 5pm

Council is seeking feedback on the first proposed street play day in Laycock Street on 8 November 2020 from 1pm - 5pm. The street will be closed to through traffic from the intersection with Yeo Street and approximately 10 parking spaces around the centre of the street will be closed off/unavailable to allow space for ball games etc. Formal traffic control will be in place to allow resident access at this time; however, we would encourage residents to minimise trips during these times if possible as the ‘play’ activities will be taking place. McHatton Street - Friday 13 November 2020 from 11.30am - 1.30pm

Council is seeking feedback on the second proposed street play day in McHatton Street on Friday 13 November 2020 from 11.30am - 1.30pm. It is proposed to close a section of McHatton Street to through traffic – between No. 4 McHatton Street and the Pacific Highway. During this time, students from North Sydney Demonstration School will use the road space for games, activities and ‘play’ space. Formal traffic control will be in place at this time to allow resident vehicle access if critical; however, we encourage residents to avoid vehicle trips during these times as the ‘play’ activities will be taking place. Rosalind Street and Edwin Street - Sunday 15 November from 1pm - 5pm

Council is seeking feedback on the third proposed street play day in Rosliand and Edwin Street on Sunday 15 November 2020 from 1pm - 5pm. It is proposed to close Edwin Street, and a section of Rosalind Street between No. 16 and No. 35, from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday 15 November 2020 for a street play day. The street will be closed to through traffic and approx. 10 parking spaces on Edwin Street and 9 parking space in Rosalind Street (near to the intersection with Rosalind Street) will be closed off/unavailable to provide a space for games for small children and separate area for ball games/scooters etc. Formal traffic control will be in place to allow resident access to/from their property at this time if critical; however, we would encourage you to minimise trips during these times if possible as the ‘play’ activities will be taking place. (Click on the green link or tab below to provide feedback)

Burlington Street and Sophia Street - Sunday 22 November 2020 from 1pm - 6.30pm

Council is seeking feedback on the fourth proposed street play day in Sophia Street (between Falcon Lane and Burlington Lane) and Burlington Street (between No. 61 and West Street) from 1pm to 6.30pm on Sunday 22 November 2020 for a street play day. The street will be closed to through traffic and approx. 25 parking spaces near to the intersection of Burlington Street and Sophia Street will be unavailable at this time. Formal traffic control will be in place to allow resident access to/from their property at this time if critical; however, we would encourage you to minimise trips during these times if possible as the ‘play’ activities will be taking place.
