UPDATE March 2023

Revised concept plan available from the document library - based on feedback received.

Feedback closed 11.59pm, Monday 12 December 2022.

In accordance with Council’s Playgrounds Plan of Management and Playgrounds Methodology, the existing Prior Avenue Playground (Cremorne) is scheduled for upgrade.

The existing playground is approximately 20 years old and has been very well-used during this time. Council seeks to revitalise this popular facility while retaining the beautiful, leafy, garden character of the existing playground. The proposed upgrade will retain some of the existing elements but will aim to increase functionality and accessibility and where space permits some new play elements will be added.

Project Objectives

To create a refurbished and expanded playground that:

  • retains the existing leafy, garden character of the playground
  • provides a variety of play equipment for a range of ages and abilities, including inclusive play opportunities
  • provides a pleasant environment for parents and carers with an adequate amount of seating positioned to facilitate easy supervision; and
  • provides maximum play value by offering many different types of activities (swinging, sliding, bouncing, balancing, climbing etc).

Design Overview

The design concept has been developed to suit preschool and primary school aged children as well as providing comfortable seating for parents and carers, within the available budget.

The upgrade seeks to retain some of the existing playground elements including its leafy green character, as they are valued by the community. At the same time, the upgrade aims to increase safety, functionality and accessibility. Where space permits, some new play elements will be added.

The existing castle will be enhanced with a new open slide suitable for all ages, rope hang out activity under the deck, interactive game panel on the upper deck and a rainbow wheel and rain wheel on the lower deck area.

Play area will be expanded with:

  • new zone dedicated to creative play including Japanese stairs, and stepping stones;
  • medieval themed climbing trunk;
  • sandstone stepping logs which form part of a nature play;
  • multi-play nature gym structure with a great play value for school aged children and adults, activities including climbing, balancing and stretching;
  • casual seating platform connected to the nature gym;
  • rubber surfacing in high traffic areas;
  • a new picnic setting and a park seat will be installed within the playground
  • a new welcoming entry from Prior Avenue is proposed
  • the upgraded playground will remain within the same boundary in the park and utilise most of the existing ‘play bubbles’
  • the proposed colour scheme of the new equipment and materials will complement the existing character and setting
