UPDATE 30 NOVEMBER 2020

Two options were proposed to the residents to progress the works that are detailed in the background information below. Option A consisted of carrying out the works over continuous nights until completion. Option B entailed spreading the works over a number of weeks and capping each week to a maximum of 3 consecutive nights.

Most respondents favoured to have the works completed in the shortest timeframe rather than extending it over a longer period (i.e. Option A).

Therefore, in accordance with the Community Engagement Strategy adopted for this project, Council will be proceeding with the works as favoured by most respondents.

Note: Council will be commencing works along Miller Street between Carlow Street and Ridge Street on SUNDAY 6 DECEMBER 2020. Public notice is available from the document library.

Works between Berry Street and McLaren Street is scheduled to commence in 2021, most likely mid January or after Australia Day, subject to approval by the Traffic Management Centre.

Residents and Business Owners will be notified of the construction works 5 days before commencement date of each stage - letters will be dropped in the mail boxes.

All effort will be made to minimise disruption to facilitate the works as safely as possible.

Stage 1 and 2 feedback closed 3 November 2020.

BACKGROUND

Council is proposing to undertake significant, essential upgrade works along Miller Street and Blue Street and seeks input on two options under which works can be undertaken.

Miller and Blue Streets are important regional roads which connect North Sydney to the City attracting tens of thousands of vehicles each day. The proposed works are considered necessary because various areas within the pavement have subsided (see images of typical pavement failures in the Document Library). It is important to maintain these roads to ensure the safety of all road users.

The works consist of milling the existing asphalt surface, excavating and reinstating the damaged concrete pavement beneath the road’s surface, and laying a new asphalt seal. Works will be undertaken in four separate stages. The commencement dates and durations are outlined in the table below. A locality map is available in the Document Library.

*Information and preliminary feedback for stage 3 and 4, further consultation will be undertaken at a date closer to the works.

In relation to construction duration, two options are provided for each stage of the works for consideration by residents. Option A entails undertaking the works on straight consecutive nights until completion. Option B allows the spread of duration across several weeks by limiting the works to a maximum of 3 straight consecutive nights in any given week and providing residents with 4 nights of noise reprieve.

Regrettably, both options will cause disruption to normal sleeping patterns. Council is therefore seeking input from affected residents to determine which option will have the least negative impact on their wellbeing. Residents are kindly requested to use the link below to vote on their preferred option and provide any feedback.
