PROJECT UPDATE
Works for the Blues Point Reserve Lighting Upgrade will commence Monday 24 March 2025. The upgrades are expected to be completed within 10 weeks of commencement, weather permitting. There will be partial closures of the path during working hours but efforts will be made to minimise the impact.
BACKGROUND
Council is proposing to upgrade the lighting at Blues Point Reserve to energy-efficient LEDs.
The new lights will replace the existing Ausgrid mercury vapour lamps and poles. The new street poles will match the ones recently installed by the State Government near Henry Lawson Reserve.
While the number of lights within the Reserve will increase to 20, there will be a reduction in light spill out of the Reserve.
Advantages of the new lighting include:
reducing our energy consumption
better lighting quality and minimising light being reflected outside the reserve
reducing glare on nearby residents
using warmer tone lighting which is more appealing to our nocturnal fauna
saves maintenance and running costs of public lighting
improves night-time safety and visibility in Blues Point Reserve.
Council is committed to embracing the principles of environmental sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by reducing energy consumption. This project aligns with the North Sydney Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2030.
After the consultation closes, the community will be informed about the outcome and the dates for the lighting installation will be confirmed. The proposed timing for the new LED lighting installation is September 2023. Works will be staged to ensure continued access to the Reserve during construction.
