What is a Volunteer Champion?
The North Sydney Council Volunteer Champions are members of the local community who recruit other volunteers to help on race day. They are passionate individuals who want to give back to the community and potentially win themselves a spot in the 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon.
How long do I have to recruit volunteers for my team?
You can register volunteers as part of your Champion team until midnight on 30 June 2025. This allows the winners of the free race entries enough time to train.
What volunteer roles are available?
Roles could include event marshals, navigator ninjas (guiding participants and spectators), helping at drink stations etc.
For more details visit Venue Volunteers | TCS Sydney Marathon
Do you need experience to be a volunteer?
No experience is required for most roles – just positive energy, a friendly attitude, and a willingness to work within a team and take directions from other volunteers, team leaders, and supervisors.
Can my team be allocated roles together?
Wherever possible your volunteer team will be scheduled together. This is managed by the TCS Sydney Marathon team.
What time commitment is involved?
Start line shifts start from 3:45am and finish at 9:30am. Each volunteer must commit to the full shift leaving you plenty of time to see your family and friends cross the finish line.
Is there a minimum age requirement for volunteers?
Start line volunteers must be 16 years or over if attending by themselves. Parents can accompany 14- and 15-year-olds.
If you want to volunteer with younger children, please contact volunteers@sydneymarathon.com.
What do volunteers receive as a thank you for their support?
All race day volunteers will receive:
Entry into an exclusive volunteer ballot for entry into the 2026 TCS Sydney marathon (Race Day shifts only)
I’ve filled out the Expression of Interest to be a Volunteer Champion. What happens next?
The Council will send you a unique link from TCS Sydney Marathon 2025 for you to use to register your volunteer team. Once you’ve registered your account**, TCS Sydney Marathon will provide you with information about volunteering on the day. Council’s communications team will be in touch to check in with your progress.
Winners of the three free race entries will be announced on 1 July giving you time to get training!
How will winners be notified?
Council’s communications team will contact you via email and phone on Tuesday 1 July 2025. You will need to confirm acceptance of your entry place in writing by Monday 7 July 2025. You will also be asked to participate in Council promotions.
All volunteer champions will be notified if they have won a place or not via email by Friday 11 July 2025.
I missed the deadline for registering myself as a Volunteer Champion. Can I still volunteer?
Yes. The TCS Sydney Marathon 2025 has multiple volunteer roles in the lead up to the event and on race day itself. Please email volunteers@sydneymarathon.com.
