Feedback closed 28 June 2021

On 24 May 2021 Council resolved to public exhibit the Draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

Sustainability is one of Council's eight core values. As such, equity, preservation, justice and precaution are important principles that help focus everything Council does.

The draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2030 relates specifically to environmental sustainability and sets targets for Council’s own operations and the community to help achieve our environmental goals.

Environmental goals include acting on Council’s climate emergency declaration, protecting native plants and animals, looking after our waterways, reducing waste to landfill and using resources wisely.

The Strategy contains 22 targets across the following themes:

  1. Our Carbon Footprint
  2. Water Conservation
  3. Water Quality
  4. Engagement in Sustainability
  5. Urban Ecology
  6. Resource Recovery
  7. Sustainable Transport

The themes and targets are closely aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the international best practice standard for sustainability reporting.

The Strategy contains an Action Plan that clearly identifies responsibilities, timeframes and performance measures to help guide and track its implementation.

Before providing feedback please ensure you have reviewed the Draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy. Feedback is sought on the overall strategy, themes and the targets.
