Robertsons Point Upgrade, Cremorne Reserve
Consultation has concluded
UPDATE APRIL 2020
Outcomes of Community Consultation
In January/February 2020 we invited community feedback in relation to Council’s proposal for a landscape upgrade of the Robertsons Point area.
The proposal included installation of accessible viewing areas, sandstone seating and paving, installation of low sandstone walls and edging, relocation of memorial seats from the upper level area to a lower level and adjustments to existing stairs.
Thirteen participants of the consultation provided a written submission.
Most submissions (77%) generally expressed support for the proposed landscape upgrade, 22% of submissions did not support any improvements and would rather see the money being spent elsewhere in the reserve.
Based on the results of the consultation Council will proceed with the implementation of the proposed upgrade, however there is a general consensus that the design should be more minimal in its intervention to the natural landscape and concerns were raised with the proposed use of sandstone bench seats and the amount of hard surfaces.
In order to address the concerns and identified issues, changes to the final design will include a reduction in sandstone paving and hard surfaces, greater protection of the natural landscape, retention of the existing seating on the upper level and generally a more simplified design response to achieve the objectives. The revised landscape plan is available in the document library.
Council will proceed to the quotation stage and implementation of works.
BACKGROUND
The Cremorne Reserve Plan of Management and Cremorne Reserve Masterplan 1998 identified a series of improvements for Cremorne Point Reserve that have been implemented over time as funding has become available. In 2019/20 budget Council allocated funding for the investigations, consultation, design and improvement of the open space area known as Robertsons Point.
The objectives of the proposed landscape improvement include:
- enhance the local natural environment and urban greenspace
- provide appropriate public open space
- improve access and circulation around the reserve
- provide additional seating and enhance opportunities to view the harbour
- protect natural landscape and celebrate the area’s rich natural heritage
- ensure Cremorne Reserve meets the community’s recreational needs
