About the project
The former North Sydney Post Office is one of the area's most recognisable heritage landmarks located on the intersection of Pacific Highway and Mount Street.
The 2019 North Sydney CBD Public Domain Strategy identified the square as part of a network of North Sydney plazas, parks and public spaces intended to act as "communal urban rooms" where the community can celebrate, share, interact or relax.
As part of Council's adopted Delivery Program 2025-2029 and Operational Plan 2026-2027, Council has committed to commencing the design of a new public plaza outside the former Post Office building and undertaking community engagement to help shape the project. Accessibility and inclusion principles will be incorporated into the design process.
At this stage, no concept design has been prepared, although an artist's impression has been created to help reimagine the space; no final decisions have been made about the area's future layout.
This consultation represents the first opportunity for the community to help identify:
- Opportunities for improvement
- Curent issues and challenges
- Desired future uses
- Access and connectivity needs
- Public domain prioirities
- Community aspirations for the space
Your feedback will assist Council in preparing a desing brief and informing future project investigations.
