Why is more open space needed?
Crows Nest and St Leonards is one of Sydney's fastest-growing urban centres and demand for parks and open space continues to increase.
Currently:
- Crows Nest and St Leonards has just 3.87m² of open space per resident, the lowest provision within North Sydney.
- This is forecast to reduce to 2.85m² per resident by 2036 without additional open space.
- Almost half the catchment is more than 400 metres from a local park.
- Significant population growth is expected over the coming decade.
For many residents living in apartments, public parks provide an important place to exercise, relax, connect with others and enjoy nature close to home.
