Draft DCP Amendment - Electrification Stage 1

At its meeting on 28 August 2025, Council resolved to endorse a draft amendment to North Sydney Development Control Plan (NSDCP) 2025 and place that draft amendment on public exhibition.

The primary purpose of the draft DCP amendment is to incorporate new provisions that seek to provide a safer and healthier indoor amenity by mitigating the health impacts associated with burning gas and promotion of all electric buildings for all new residential development. This draft DCP amendment represents the first stage of phasing out gas connections and appliances, which aligns with the adopted policy position of many other Council in Sydney.

The draft amendment to NSDCP 2025 will be on public exhibition from Thursday 16 October 2025 to Friday 14 November 2025 inclusive and may be viewed at:

  • the Document Library (on this page);
  • Council’s Customer Service Centre, 200 Miller Street, North Sydney, from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays;
  • Stanton Library, 234 Miller Street, North Sydney, during opening hours.

    All submissions in their entirety are made publicly available in the report to Council. Personal identifying information, and content which is discriminatory, hateful or which may defame, offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate will be redacted.

Post Exhibition Report

Following the conclusion of the public exhibition, Council staff will review all submissions made and report the issues raised within the submissions to the elected Council for its consideration. If you make a submission, you will be notified of the date that the matter will be reported to Council and how to address Council should you wish to do so. A valid email address is required to be provided to Council for this to occur.
