Playground upgrade complete.

In October/November 2017, Council called for feedback regarding the proposed upgrade to Kesterton Park Playgound.

The upgrade has recently been completed. The existing playground was constructed over 15 years ago and has been a popular local playground. Many of the play items had become tired or worn out and the whole playground was ready for refurbishment. This work was in accordance with the North Sydney Playgrounds Plan of Management and the North Sydney Playgrounds Upgrading Methodology, and funding was allocated in the North Sydney Delivery Program.

The modern new playground features a custom-designed, sculptural style climb & slide structure, a fun spinning pyramid and a massive triple-bay swing set with lots of different swing seats including a ‘parent & child’ swing, accessible swing, basket swing and traditional toddler and strap style seats. The whole playground has patterned rubber undersurfacing with a maritime ‘whale’ theme and the playspace is fenced with activity panels incorporated.

Adjoining the playspace is a fabulous outdoor fitness facility, and both within and outside the play area, low sandstone walls provide textural informal seating. The playground area was already well-shaded by existing trees and the existing gardens have been revamped to provide a relaxed landscape setting.
Additional works were carried out throughout the rest of Kesterton Park including new footpaths, new park furniture, landscaping and new turf, resulting in a fantastic new public open space linking via the new overwater pathway to the recently opened HMAS Platypus site.
